Privacy Policy
1. Our approach: computed on your device, stored in your account
BuyBox runs its analysis on your own device: the math is computed locally, not on our servers. Your properties, portfolio and assumptions are then saved to your BuyBox account so they are available on every device you sign in to. That data travels over an encrypted connection, is stored encrypted at rest, and is isolated to your account. Using BuyBox requires an account, and saved deals are stored in your account by default. This policy covers BuyBox, including the BuyBox web app at app.probuybox.com, the BuyBox browser extension and our website at probuybox.com.
2. Information we collect
Account data: the email address you use to activate and license the Software. Billing data: handled entirely by our payment processor. We do not receive or store your card details. Launch waitlist: if you ask us to tell you when BuyBox launches, we store the email address you give us, your first name if you choose to add one, and which page you signed up from. We also record how you reached that page (the referring site and any campaign tags in the link) and the country your request came from. The form also asks three optional multiple-choice questions: what you use to analyze deals today (with an optional one-word answer if you pick Other), how many deals you ran numbers on in the last 30 days, and either where you heard about BuyBox or which investing strategy you are running numbers for. We store whichever of those you choose to answer. You can leave all three blank and still join. If you sign up again later, we keep the answers you gave first; to change them, email privacy@probuybox.com. To stop automated abuse of that form we also keep a one-way hashed identifier derived from your IP address; we do not store the address itself. Browser extension: when you click the BuyBox browser extension in the browser toolbar, it checks whether the open tab is a listing on a supported listing site, and only then reads the details of that listing from the page (such as its address, price and property facts, the web address of the page and the link to its first photo) and loads that photo from the listing site to show you a preview. When you click Open in Web App, it opens the BuyBox web app in a new tab and passes those details in the web address it opens, so the app can start an analysis from them. The extension collects no browsing history, stores nothing, and sends nothing to us on its own. We do not run advertising trackers or sell your personal information.
3. How we use information
To provide and license the Software, store your saved work encrypted in your account so it is available across the devices you sign in to, process your subscription through our payment processor, send essential service communications, and improve reliability. We use the optional waitlist answers for three things only: deciding the order in which we open early access, understanding who is joining and how they find BuyBox, and counting signups by answer. We do not sell your personal information.
4. Third-party services
We rely on third-party providers for payment processing and sales tax, for the cloud infrastructure that stores your account data encrypted (for BuyBox), and for delivering the emails we send you. Each of them processes data under its own privacy policy; for the current list of providers, email privacy@probuybox.com. Separately, if you connect a rent-estimate service in Settings using an API key you provide, that service processes what you send it under its own policy.
5. Data retention
Your data is retained while your account is active. To export or delete your data, or to delete your account entirely, email privacy@probuybox.com and we will action the request. Waitlist entries are kept until launch and for a short period after it. Every email we send you carries a one-click unsubscribe link, which stops all further waitlist email immediately; to have the entry deleted rather than unsubscribed, email privacy@probuybox.com.
6. Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your personal data. To exercise them, email us at the address below.
7. Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. No system is perfectly secure, but we apply industry-standard safeguards and minimize the data we collect.
